Ladyhill English Higher Primary School, Urwa Mangalore started by the Apostolic Carmel Sisters in 1965, is a Minority Educational Institution as per the Constitution of India, Article No. 30 (1). The Apostolic Carmel Congregation was founded by Mother Veronica of the Passion (1823 - 2006) in Bayonne, France in 1868 and was established at St. Ann’s campus in Mangalore in 1870 with its main thrust, the development of women in India, as Persons imbued with deep faith in God and in themselves by providing sound Catholic Education. Over the past hundred and forty years of its existence the Apostolic Carmel has expanded with large number of Educational establishments in India, Sri Lanka, Middle East, Pakistan and East Africa. In Karnataka under the auspices of the Apostolic Carmel Educational Society (R), it runs:

  1. St. Ann’s College of Education (UG & PG) for Teacher Education, Mangalore;
  2. St. Agnes College of Arts, Science, Commerce and Business Management, Mangalore; Carmel College, Modankap, Bantwal
  3. St. Agnes Special School for the Mentally Challenged with Vocational Unit and Carmel Vidya Vikas Kendra, a Residential School for the Mentally Challenged in Bailhongal, Belgum District;
  4. A Secondary Grade Teacher Training Institute and a Teacher Training for Special Education; Carmel D.Ed. College, Bidar.
  5. Two Institutes ofTechnical Education with Community Colleges in Mangalore and Bidar;
  6. Six Composite Pre University Colleges and One Pre University College;
  7. Ten Aided and Three Unaided Secondary Schools (High Schools);
  8. Ten Kannada Medium Higher Primary Schools, Eight English Higher Primary Schools and Four English Primary Schools;
  9. Eight Anganawadis (Kannada) and Thirteen Kindergartens (English) - Pre Primary Schools;
  10. Five Homes for residential care for the Disadvantaged Children;
  11. Three National Institutes for Open Schooling;
  12. KSOU study centre for M.Ed, Bhoj University Study Centre for B.Ed. (Special Education)

While fulfilling our objectives as a Christian Minority Institution for the Education of this minority, our institutions are also open to all, irrespective of religion, caste and creed. However, in keeping with the aims and philosophy of Catholic Institution and the Charism of our Foundress, Mother Veronica who cared for the poor and theorphaned, we have a special concern for the disadvantaged and marginalized sections of the society through our education.
